What is aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is a gentle healing art using massage and essential oils derived from aromatic plants and trees to relieve physical and psychological discomfort It is found to be most efficient when used to heal the whole person and not only a physical condition. It looks into the causes and the prevention of illness. Health problems are looked at in the context of a person's "whole" life--mind, body and spirit. These three must be in a state of equilibrium with each other. If one aspect becomes unbalanced, it can lead to physical or mental illness. In many cases, emotional disharmony can eventually manifest as physical illness or "dis-"ease. Aromatherapy can help to restore the body to a state of homeostasis.

What to expect during an aromatherapy session?
-At the beginning of the session, I will ask you to fill out a very detailed intake form outlining your medical history as well as lifestyle. This is to ensure that the most beneficial (and safest) choice of essential oils is chosen for your treatment. There are some contraindications for massage, but something can always be done even when the full body massage is not recommended.
During the massage, your body will remain fully covered with sheets and blankets except for your head and the specific area that is being worked on. The temperature, level of lighting and music in the room are always adjusted to ensure your comfort. After the treatment, as follow-ups or to compliment your massage, synergistic oil blends and remedies can be made to suit your individual needs. Different forms of aromatherapeutic treatment may be advised for home use depending on your needs: bath, footbath, steam inhalation, compress, self-massage of localized area, diffusion, etc. These are all hand-made and can be tailored to specific requirements. After the treatment, feedback will be greatly appreciated and you will be asked for it before your next session. |
How to make the most of your aromatherapy massage treatment
Before your massage:
1. Have a cool shower or bath. 2. Do not apply perfumes or deodorants. 3. Do not have a large or heavy meal. 4. Do not drink alcohol. 5. Do not have massage if you have the flu or a fever or had recently had an immunization or serious operation. However, once the worst of it is over, let aromatherapy help your system get back into balance. After your massage: 1. Drink a glass of water immediately after the treatment and drink plenty of water and mild herbal teas for the rest of the day -- it will help to eliminate toxins from your body. 2. Keep the essential oils on for 24 hours if possible. 3. Avoid alcohol and smoking. 4.Do not lie in the sun for one or two days -- some oils can cause photosensitivity. 5. Eat a light meal and avoid heavy or processed food for the rest of the day.
